R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jean Edmond Hosey of La Grange passed |
|
away on April 16, 2007, bringing to a close a remarkable life that |
|
included service as a state representative for Galveston County and |
|
a successful career as an attorney; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Waco in 1920, Jean Hosey graduated from |
|
Baylor University in 1941 and began studies at Georgetown |
|
University Law Center before becoming an officer in the U.S. Navy |
|
during World War II; he completed his law degree at The University |
|
of Texas School of Law in 1948; and |
|
WHEREAS, That same year, he and his family settled in |
|
Galveston, and Mr. Hosey practiced law there for the next 32 years; |
|
he established a practice with A. R. "Babe" Schwartz and David |
|
Greenberg, and like his partners, Mr. Hosey decided to enter |
|
politics; elected as the state representative for House District |
|
21-1, he held office from 1955 to 1959 and ably served his |
|
constituents in the 54th and 55th Legislatures; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Hosey was also a member of the commission that |
|
revised Galveston's city charter, and he had the pleasure of |
|
practicing law alongside his son, Philip, for nine years; even |
|
after he retired from private practice in 1980, Mr. Hosey remained |
|
involved in his field and was part of the team of lawyers that |
|
represented the State of Texas in a case that determined the legal |
|
residency of the late Howard Hughes; and |
|
WHEREAS, An avid fisherman, hunter, and bridge player, Mr. |
|
Hosey also took part in Rotary Club activities; after moving to La |
|
Grange in 1980, he and his wife spent their retirement years |
|
traveling and enjoying the company of their friends, children, |
|
grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; those who had the good |
|
fortune to know Jean Hosey may take comfort in their fond memories |
|
of this accomplished man, and his loved ones may reflect with pride |
|
on his long record of achievement; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Honorable Jean |
|
Edmond Hosey and extend deepest condolences to the members of his |
|
family: to his wife of 63 years, Grace Wooley Hosey; to his |
|
children, Helen Leahy and her husband, James, and Philip Hosey and |
|
his wife, Phyllis; to his grandchildren, Thomas Hosey and his wife, |
|
Joy, Denise Parcelluzzi and her husband, Keith, Dr. Michael Leahy |
|
and his wife, Jennifer, and Corey Marrs and her husband, Joe; to his |
|
six great-grandchildren; to his brother, Dr. A. B. Hosey, and his |
|
partner, Judd Whitman; and to his other relatives and friends; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jean Hosey. |
