R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A delegation from the Central Party School of China, |
|
in Beijing, is visiting the Texas State Capitol on May 8, 2007; and |
|
WHEREAS, This notable event is taking place as a result of an |
|
international exchange program for emerging government and |
|
business leaders that has been established by the Central Party |
|
School and the Texas Lyceum Association; brought into being by an |
|
agreement signed in Beijing on January 6, 2006, this program is the |
|
first international exchange program that the school has entered |
|
into with a nongovernmental organization and is one of only a few |
|
exchange agreements of any kind established with an entity in the |
|
West; and |
|
WHEREAS, The goal of this important agreement is to foster a |
|
better understanding of the commonality that exists between the |
|
United States and China in the areas of cultural values, ethics, and |
|
leadership development; a series of bilateral cultural, academic, |
|
and business exchange activities is envisioned, one of which will |
|
be an annual Lyceum Leadership Exchange Forum; the forum will |
|
provide an opportunity for emerging political, cultural, and |
|
economic pacesetters from each country to jointly explore the most |
|
pressing issues facing their nations and the world at large; and |
|
WHEREAS, Founded in 1980, the Texas Lyceum Association is an |
|
independent, nonpartisan leadership development organization whose |
|
membership reflects the breadth of the state's geographic and |
|
demographic diversity; and |
|
WHEREAS, China's Central Party School constitutes both the |
|
training academy for the political, cultural, and business |
|
leadership of China and also that country's most significant |
|
cultural think tank; Hu Jintao, president of the People's Republic |
|
of China, formerly served as president of the school, and its |
|
current president, Zeng Quinghong, serves today as vice president |
|
of the PRC and as one of the nine members of the Standing Committee |
|
of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee; and |
|
WHEREAS, Leading the delegation from Central Party School is |
|
Xu Weixin, professor and chief of the Training Program Department; |
|
accompanying Ms. Xu are Shi Yanmei, professor in the Institute of |
|
International Strategy, Bai Pinghao, associate professor and |
|
director of the Socialism Development History Center in the |
|
Scientific Socialism Department, Xu Pinghua, associate professor |
|
in the Economics Department, and Wang Jia, program coordinator of |
|
the Foreign Affairs Office; and |
|
WHEREAS, The exchange program established by Central Party |
|
School and the Texas Lyceum provides an outstanding opportunity for |
|
talented and dynamic young leaders from both China and Texas to |
|
share insights, information, and ideas about the momentous |
|
challenges of our time and to forge lasting relationships that may |
|
serve as a bridge of friendship between our two peoples; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby welcome to the Texas State Capitol the |
|
delegation from the Central Party School of China and extend to its |
|
distinguished members sincere best wishes for a most enjoyable and |
|
memorable visit. |
