R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The city of Laredo is once again hosting the Miss
  Texas USA Pageant in June 2007, and the hard work of the Laredo
  Convention and Visitors Bureau  contributed greatly to bringing the
  event to the city; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout the week of June 24, 135 young women will
  be competing for the title of Miss Texas USA, and the winner will
  then go on to represent the Lone Star State at the Miss USA Pageant;
  and
         WHEREAS, Telecast live from the Laredo Entertainment Center
  on July 1, 2007, the final night of the pageant is expected to be
  seen by some eight million households in Texas, New Mexico,
  Louisiana, and Oklahoma; the broadcast will be cohosted by Kandace
  Krueger Matthews, Miss Texas USA 2001 and Miss USA 2001, and Jason
  Feinberg of E! Entertainment; and
         WHEREAS, The pageant will showcase not only some of the Lone
  Star State's most accomplished young women, but also the many
  attractions of this unique cultural crossroads; as the marketing
  department for the city, the Laredo Convention and Visitors Bureau
  promotes the community nationwide, and its efforts have been
  instrumental in attracting such events and conventions as the
  International Hispanic Network, the U.S.-Mexico International
  Sister Cities Association and Festival, and the Bi-National Paisano
  Project; and
         WHEREAS, Blessed with a rich heritage and a promising future,
  Laredo is indeed deserving of special recognition for once again
  hosting this notable Lone Star event; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the city of Laredo on hosting the
  2007 Miss Texas USA Pageant and commend the Laredo Convention and
  Visitors Bureau on its successful work in behalf of the city.
