R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Members of St. Phillips Missionary Baptist Church in
  Dallas are celebrating 30 years of service by their beloved pastor,
  the Reverend C. J. R. Phillips, Jr.; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Ladonia on January 23, 1944, Reverend
  Phillips is the son of the late Reverend Dr. C. J. R. Phillips, Sr.,
  and Inez White Phillips, and he is blessed to come from a respected
  line of esteemed Bishop College gospel preachers; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of Madison High School's Class of 1962,
  Reverend Phillips served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1966 before
  attending Bishop College, where he majored in religion; and
         WHEREAS, Reverend Phillips is highly regarded at home and
  abroad for his inspirational sermons and his exceptional musical
  gifts, and he freely shares his faith and talent with his fellow
  Christians through his participation in revivals throughout the
  nation; and
         WHEREAS, The congregants of St. Phillips Missionary Baptist
  Church have witnessed much positive change during the three-decade
  tenure of Reverend Phillips; indeed, membership has increased
  dramatically under his leadership, and the church has undergone a
  total renovation and now includes a fully accredited child-care
  center; and
         WHEREAS, A member of the Dallas chapter of the NAACP as well
  as the Baptist Ministers Conference of Dallas, Reverend Phillips
  enjoys numerous affiliations with respected religious and social
  organizations on the local, state, and national levels; he is also
  the recipient of a host of honors and accolades, including an
  honorary doctorate from New Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church Institute,
  recognition by the governor of Texas and the mayor of Dallas, and
  the declaration of C. J. R. Phillips Day by the City of Dallas in
  October 1994; and
         WHEREAS, In all his efforts to serve his congregants and
  fellow citizens, Reverend Phillips enjoys the love and support of
  his devoted wife, Esther Calhoun Phillips, and his message of
  charity, hope, and faith continues to resonate among his many
  friends and admirers in the State of Texas and beyond; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Reverend C. J. R. Phillips,
  Jr., on 30 years of service as pastor of St. Phillips Missionary
  Baptist Church and extend best wishes to him for many more years of
  service to his congregants; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Reverend Phillips as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
