R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Bertye Jordan of Katy is celebrating a significant
  milestone in her life with her 80th birthday on May 14, 2007; and
         WHEREAS, Born to Bert and Lockey Girard in Olney in 1927, the
  former Bertye Girard has been a resident of Katy since she was a
  teenager and worked at Katy Drug Store; on June 6, 1944, she married
  Melvin Jordan, and the devoted couple have enjoyed nearly 63 years
  together; and
         WHEREAS, Family has always been at the center of Mrs.
  Jordan's life, and, as an excellent cook and baker, she has always
  greatly enjoyed preparing for holidays and gatherings with her
  family, which today includes four children, Beverlye, Steve,
  Theresa, and Marc, and their spouses, as well as 14 grandchildren
  and 15 great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, The owner of Ber Mel's clothing store in Katy from
  1956 to 1976, Mrs. Jordan provided her customers with fine fashion
  and personal service for some 20 years, and she shared her skill as
  a seamstress with her clientele as well; in addition to meeting her
  work and family responsibilities, Mrs. Jordan has been a faithful
  member of First United Methodist Church for more than 50 years; and
         WHEREAS, A devoted wife and mother and a much-loved member of
  her community, Bertye Jordan has earned a special place in the
  hearts of all who are fortunate enough to know her; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Bertye Jordan on the joyous
  occasion of her 80th birthday and extend to her best wishes for
  continued happiness and good fortune; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Jordan as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
