R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, City officials, area residents, and members of the
  Katy Police Department celebrated the completion of the first phase
  of the renovation of the Katy Police Station with a ribbon-cutting
  ceremony on May 1, 2007; and
         WHEREAS, Established in 1967, the Katy Police Department was
  founded with just one officer, Chief Pat Adams, who ably served the
  Katy community for 29 years until his retirement on January 31,
  1996; and
         WHEREAS, Current Chief R. L. "Buddy" Frazier took over
  leadership of the department on February 1, 1996, and today the Katy
  Police Department boasts 43 certified police officers, two
  certified animal control officers, and 18 civilian employees; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to providing regular patrols that help
  to serve and protect the citizens of Katy and surrounding areas, the
  Katy Police Department has implemented a number of programs that
  further benefit citizens, including a security/vacation watch
  program, a crime prevention program, and several child safety
  programs; and
         WHEREAS, The department's renovation and addition project,
  which is scheduled for completion by mid-June 2007, will nearly
  triple the size of the existing police station, enabling the
  dedicated members of the Katy Police Department to better serve the
  citizens of Katy's growing community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the completion of the first phase of
  the renovation of the Katy Police Department's police station and
  commend the dedicated officers of this fine police force; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Chief Frazier and the department as an expression of
  high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
