R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The retirement of Officer Charles Tanksley from the
  Houston Police Department on March 23, 2007, brought to a close an
  outstanding career in law enforcement that spanned nearly three
  decades; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of Texas Southern University, Officer
  Tanksley is a veteran of the Vietnam War; he began his tenure with
  the Houston Police Department in September 1979; through the years,
  he fulfilled his many duties with his characteristic integrity and
  dedication to excellence and lent his time and talents as the
  coordinator of the Northeast Patrol Division's Positive
  Interaction Program; and
         WHEREAS, Officer Tanksley garnered a host of honors for his
  exceptional job performance, including recognition from the 100
  Club and the African American Police Officers League, which lauded
  him as the Officer of the Year; and
         WHEREAS, Officer Tanksley has earned the lasting respect of
  his colleagues and the citizens he has worked to protect; he may
  reflect with pride on his accomplished career, knowing he has made
  the Bayou City a better and safer place in which to live, work, and
  raise a family; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Officer Charles Tanksley on his
  retirement from the Houston Police Department and extend to him
  best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Officer Tanksley as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
