R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Leonard Joseph Llorens of Houston passed away on
  April 29, 2007, leaving behind a loving family and a legacy of
  service that will be remembered for years to come; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Melrose, Louisiana, on October 27, 1923, Mr.
  Llorens moved to Houston in 1941; he served in the U.S. Army from
  1943 to 1946 and earned a Bronze Star for his courageous actions in
  World War II; and
         WHEREAS, After completing his military duty, Mr. Llorens was
  hired by the U.S. Postal Service, where his distinguished service
  earned him several prestigious commendations, including two
  superior achievement awards; he retired in 1984 as manager of the
  Jensen Drive station; and
         WHEREAS, A longtime member of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic
  Church, Mr. Llorens dedicated his time and talents to various
  leadership positions in his parish; he served as president of the
  board of directors of Our Mother of Mercy Credit Union for 41 years,
  as chief financial officer of the church, as a member of the
  Diocesan School Board, and as president of the Parish Council and
  the Holy Name Society; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Llorens was also a member of the Knights of Saint
  Peter Claver Court No. 72, and he received that organization's Man
  of the Year award in 1964 and a service award in 1993; he was further
  honored with a lifetime membership in the Knights of Columbus and
  was recognized for his contributions to the Holy Name Society; his
  most treasured accolade was being appointed as a Knight of St.
  Gregory the Great by Pope Paul VI in 1966; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Llorens enjoyed the love
  and support of his wife, the former Thelma Moran, whom he married in
  1947, and the seven children they raised; and
         WHEREAS, Held in the highest regard by all who knew him,
  Leonard Llorens brought a generosity of spirit and quiet compassion
  to all his endeavors, and he built a life that was remarkably rich
  in faith, family, and friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Leonard Joseph
  Llorens and offer condolences to the members of his family: to his
  wife of 60 years, Thelma Llorens; to his children, Renee, Cornelius
  and his wife, Cynthia, Cherry and her husband, Doyle, Timothy and
  his wife, Winny, Phyllis and her husband, Ronald, and Celeste; to
  his daughter-in-law, Alfie; to his 14 grandchildren and two
  great-grandchildren; and to his other loved relatives and friends;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Leonard
  Llorens.
