R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
  meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends
  of David Kitchens of Mineola, who passed away on March 3, 2007, at
  the age of 95; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Mineola on August 25, 1911, Mr. Kitchens
  graduated from Mineola High School in 1927 and attended Texas A&M
  University; a veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy
  and was stationed in Saipan and the Marianas Islands; and
         WHEREAS, After completing his military duty, he helped run
  his family's business, Kitchens Hardware, with his father and
  brother; he took great pleasure in assisting customers and later
  took over the store, operating it until his retirement in the early
  1980s; when he was not working, he enjoyed singing, and he was a
  member of the Mineola Minstrels performance group; and
         WHEREAS, Known for his kind and gentlemanly manner, Mr.
  Kitchens found pleasure in the smallest details of life; a gifted
  storyteller, he shared memories of his life and of the history of
  the town with others; he enjoyed some 50 years of marriage to his
  wife, the late Rosemond Harman Kitchens, who was a schoolteacher,
  and the couple were blessed with two sons and a daughter; and
         WHEREAS, David Kitchens lived a full and generous life, and
  he will long be remembered with great admiration and affection;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of David Kitchens and
  offer condolences to the members of his family: to his children,
  John David Kitchens, William Harman Kitchens, and Charm Barrett; to
  his grandsons, Jay Kitchens and David and Daniel Barrett; to his
  great-grandchildren, Daniel and Anna Rose Barrett; and to his other
  relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of David
  Kitchens.
