R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Laura Steele Elementary School in San Antonio has
  been named the 2007 Casey Award winner for the Elementary School
  Site of the Year; and
         WHEREAS, Presented by the Youth Crime Watch of America
  (YCWA), this honor recognizes individuals and organizations that
  provide outstanding leadership, resources, and exemplary support
  for youth-led crime prevention efforts; and
         WHEREAS, Under the guidance of Principal Maria Elena Garza,
  Ann Boris, and Tina Lopez, the Steele YCWA program provides
  students with the information and skills they need to lead healthy
  and drug-free lives; and
         WHEREAS, The school's YCWA group currently participates in
  peer tutoring and patrol training, and members have shared their
  message through drug prevention skits and through performances of
  the YCWA dance team, the talented members of which have showcased
  their skills during local Red Ribbon festivities, as well as at the
  State Capitol and the 18th National Youth Crime Prevention
  Conference and International Forum; and
         WHEREAS, Youth Crime Watch is an outstanding endeavor, and
  all those associated with the Laura Steele Elementary School YCWA
  program merit special recognition for their impressive
  achievements; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Laura Steele Elementary on its
  receipt of the 2007 Casey Award for the Elementary School Site of
  the Year presented by Youth Crime Watch of America and extend to the
  members of the school's YCWA program best wishes for the future;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Laura Steele Elementary School as an expression of
  high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
