R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Twelve-year-old Giang Hoang, a seventh-grade
  student at Americo Paredes Middle School in Austin, has deservedly
  been named the recipient of a 2007 READ 180 All-Star Award sponsored
  by Scholastic Publishers; and
         WHEREAS, The READ 180 All-Star Awards recognize elementary
  through high school students who have greatly improved their
  reading skills in spite of difficult circumstances; Ms. Hoang is
  one of only nine students nationwide to receive this honor; and
         WHEREAS, Nominated by her teacher, Deborah Fullman,
  Ms. Hoang is a native of Vietnam who emigrated to the United States
  several years ago; while she learned to speak English quickly,
  reading the language proved to be more difficult; through desire
  and determination, she has raised her reading scores significantly,
  while also increasing her self-confidence; and
         WHEREAS, For her remarkable achievement, Ms. Hoang will
  receive a $1,200 scholarship, and Ms. Fullman will receive $1,000
  worth of classroom materials; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Hoang's intelligence, hard work, and drive have
  garnered her this signal honor, and this remarkable young woman may
  indeed look forward to a future bright with promise; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Giang Hoang on her receipt of a
  2007 READ 180 All-Star Award and extend to her sincere best wishes
  for continued achievement; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Hoang as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
