R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends were deeply saddened by the
  passing of Richard West Hopper of Austin on January 2, 2007, yet the
  memory of his full and rewarding life remains to comfort them in
  their time of loss; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Manitou, Oklahoma, on March 21, 1926, Mr.
  Hopper joined the U.S. Navy in 1944; he served on the USS Wichita in
  the Pacific Theater during World War II, and his ship was one of the
  first to enter the Japanese Port of Nagasaki at the end of the
  conflict; at the start of the Korean War, he joined the U.S. Army
  and was selected as a member of the Counter Intelligence Corps,
  which later became the U.S. Army Intelligence Corps; he retired
  from the armed forces after 24 years of dedicated service to his
  country; and
         WHEREAS, Returning to civilian life, Mr. Hopper worked as the
  manager of the San Benito Chamber of Commerce, and he later moved to
  Austin to work in real estate and as an employee of the Internal
  Revenue Service; in his leisure time, he enjoyed researching his
  family's genealogy; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Hopper benefited from the
  love and support of his wife of 62 years, Patsy, and their four
  children; and
         WHEREAS, A career serviceman, a caring husband and father,
  and a respected businessman, Richard Hopper excelled in each of
  these roles, and his long and fruitful life serves as an inspiration
  to those who were fortunate enough to share in his love and
  friendship; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Richard West Hopper
  and offer condolences to the members of his family: to his wife,
  Patsy Hopper; to his children, Terry Shockley and Richard, Ronald,
  and Mark Hopper; to his nine grandchildren and seven
  great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and friends; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Richard
  Hopper.
