R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Frances |
|
Robbie Wileman Dudley of Austin, who died on December 15, 2006, at |
|
the age of 67; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born on September 15, 1939, to T. L. and Mary |
|
Wileman, Mrs. Dudley grew up in Randlett, Oklahoma, and graduated |
|
from high school in 1957; she subsequently moved to Wichita Falls, |
|
where she met and married her life's companion, Harold Dudley, who |
|
would later serve as the campaign manager for Governor Preston |
|
Smith and as the executive director of the Texas Employment |
|
Commission; and |
|
WHEREAS, Moving to Austin with her husband in 1965, Mrs. |
|
Dudley began a long and exemplary career in Texas government and |
|
public affairs; after working for the Texas Senate, she went on to |
|
work for the Texas Parent-Teacher Association and the Independent |
|
Cattlemen's Association; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1981 she joined the staff of State Representative |
|
John Gavin of Wichita Falls, who greatly valued her expertise and |
|
her friendship; she later retired as assistant director of |
|
government relations for the Texas Department of Insurance; and |
|
WHEREAS, An active member of the Austin community, Mrs. |
|
Dudley was a committed member of the PTA, president of the Barton |
|
Hills Neighborhood Association, and a member of the Garden Club and |
|
the Women's Hospital Auxiliary; she also served on the executive |
|
boards of Zachary Scott Theater and Artists Harvest; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Dudley was well known for her quick wit and high |
|
spirits and once led spectators in the senate gallery in "the wave" |
|
during an especially memorable late-night session; moreover, as a |
|
member of the informal group of State Capitol women who called |
|
themselves "the Rotundas," she hosted many all-night "Professional |
|
Development Retreats" at her Lake Austin home, where she instigated |
|
the tradition of ending each evening by howling at the moon; and |
|
WHEREAS, Frances Dudley lived a life that successfully |
|
balanced devotion to her family, service to her state, and a keen |
|
sense of fun; her professional skill, commitment to excellence, and |
|
joie de vivre will long be remembered by all who knew and loved her; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor the life of Frances Robbie Wileman Dudley |
|
and offer sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her |
|
sons, Tom and Tim Dudley; to her sisters, Charlotte Wingfield and |
|
Peggy Rose and her husband, Joe; to her brother, the Reverend Larry |
|
Wileman and his wife, Judy; and to her other relatives and many |
|
friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Frances |
|
Dudley. |
