R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Phil Hatlen is retiring from his position as |
|
superintendent of the Texas School for the Blind and Visually |
|
Impaired in 2007, after 17 years of outstanding service; and |
|
WHEREAS, A respected leader in his field, Dr. Hatlen has |
|
worked with the blind and visually impaired for more than half a |
|
century; his experience and ingenuity helped him to develop a |
|
National Agenda, infusing vital social and daily living skills into |
|
curriculum so that students may function ably in school and in life; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, This innovative model has since been adopted by |
|
facilities across the country and played an integral role in |
|
establishing TSBVI as one of the finest institutions of its kind in |
|
the nation; and |
|
WHEREAS, Believing that all blind children have the |
|
capability for inclusion into society and that all visually |
|
impaired individuals must have the opportunity to be equal and the |
|
right to be different, Dr. Hatlen has dedicated his professional |
|
life to ensuring that blind and visually impaired persons are |
|
equipped with the knowledge and skills to succeed, and his work has |
|
been a positive force in countless lives; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Phil Hatlen on the occasion of |
|
his retirement from the Texas School for the Blind and Visually |
|
Impaired and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Dr. Hatlen as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
