R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Leopards baseball team of Liberty-Eylau High |
|
School in Texarkana demonstrated excellence and impressive |
|
teamwork as they captured the 2006 UIL Class 3A State Championship, |
|
which is the team's first state title; and |
|
WHEREAS, Led by head coach Rick Fowler, the Leopards steadily |
|
advanced through the playoffs to earn their place among the "final |
|
four" teams competing for the state championship; Liberty-Eylau |
|
defeated the top-ranked Bridge City Cardinals in the semifinals and |
|
went on to best fourth-ranked Falfurrias by the score of 2-1 in the |
|
state final; and |
|
WHEREAS, Junior Zach Fowler, who contributed five strong |
|
innings on the mound, was named the championship game's Most |
|
Valuable Player, but the victory required a total team effort, and |
|
each member of the team played a vital role in securing the coveted |
|
championship trophy; and |
|
WHEREAS, With this significant achievement, these talented |
|
student-athletes have earned the respect and admiration of their |
|
classmates and their many fans in the community, and the memory of |
|
this momentous victory will remain with these young men for years to |
|
come; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate head coach Rick Fowler, |
|
superintendent and super supporter Scott Niven, and the Leopards |
|
baseball team on winning the 2006 Class 3A State Championship and |
|
extend best wishes to the many individuals who contributed to the |
|
team's success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
