R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Leopards baseball team of Liberty-Eylau High
  School in Texarkana demonstrated excellence and impressive
  teamwork as they captured the 2006 UIL Class 3A State Championship,
  which is the team's first state title; and
         WHEREAS, Led by head coach Rick Fowler, the Leopards steadily
  advanced through the playoffs to earn their place among the "final
  four" teams competing for the state championship; Liberty-Eylau
  defeated the top-ranked Bridge City Cardinals in the semifinals and
  went on to best fourth-ranked Falfurrias by the score of 2-1 in the
  state final; and
         WHEREAS, Junior Zach Fowler, who contributed five strong
  innings on the mound, was named the championship game's Most
  Valuable Player, but the victory required a total team effort, and
  each member of the team played a vital role in securing the coveted
  championship trophy; and
         WHEREAS, With this significant achievement, these talented
  student-athletes have earned the respect and admiration of their
  classmates and their many fans in the community, and the memory of
  this momentous victory will remain with these young men for years to
  come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate head coach Rick Fowler,
  superintendent and super supporter Scott Niven, and the Leopards
  baseball team on winning the 2006 Class 3A State Championship and
  extend best wishes to the many individuals who contributed to the
  team's success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
