R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A 50th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of love
  and shared experiences, and the Reverend Norvell Allen and Opal
  Allen are celebrating this joyous milestone in their marriage on
  June 18, 2007; and
         WHEREAS, Reverend and Mrs. Allen were joined in matrimony in
  1957 at a ceremony held at the Good Samaritan Baptist Church in
  Waco; through the years, they have been blessed with a treasured
  family that includes two children, Robbin and Alma, and their
  spouses, as well as their grandchildren and great-grandchildren;
  and
         WHEREAS, A U.S. Army veteran, Reverend Allen worked in the VA
  Hospital in Waco and later for San Angelo Independent School
  District; a man of deep faith, he was the assistant pastor of
  Bethlehem Baptist Church in Big Lake for 32 years and pastor of
  Mount Zion Baptist Church in Ozona for more than 20 years; in
  addition, he was a chaplain in the Texas Army National Guard; and
         WHEREAS, Opal Allen earned her bachelor's degree from Paul
  Quinn College and her master's degree in education from Angelo
  State University; beginning in the early 1970s, she taught world
  history at Central High School, a position she held for 30 years; in
  addition to fulfilling her family and work responsibilities, she
  has been an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma and often assisted in
  her husband's ministries; and
         WHEREAS, Reverend and Mrs. Allen have enjoyed five decades of
  abiding love and affection for one another, and they are among an
  exceptional group of men and women who can claim such a lasting
  commitment; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Reverend Norvell Allen and Opal
  Allen on their golden wedding anniversary and extend to them
  sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Reverend and Mrs. Allen as an expression of high regard
  by the Texas House of Representatives.
