R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Matthew Hernandez of McAllen has earned the |
|
|
distinction of being named the 2007 valedictorian at Edinburg North |
|
|
High School, and for achieving this auspicious honor, he is truly |
|
|
deserving of special recognition; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Earning the title of valedictorian requires not only |
|
|
intellect and aptitude, but four years of dedication to the highest |
|
|
academic standards; the student who garners this coveted |
|
|
distinction must demonstrate a thorough understanding of a wide |
|
|
range of subjects, from math and science to language arts and social |
|
|
studies, yet the rewards of the countless hours of study and |
|
|
preparation are myriad; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In addition to his impressive academic |
|
|
achievements, Mr. Hernandez demonstrated athletic excellence as a |
|
|
member of the varsity tennis team, and he also distinguished |
|
|
himself through his participation in UIL math, number sense, |
|
|
calculator, and science competitions; a member of the National |
|
|
Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta, he completed 120 hours of research |
|
|
through a science internship at The University of Texas, and he |
|
|
plans to pursue a double major in biology and chemistry; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Hernandez shared his time and talents with his |
|
|
young students as a number sense and math coach at Norma Linda |
|
|
Trevino Elementary School and as an assistant at a summer chemistry |
|
|
camp for fifth and sixth graders; moreover, as a student council |
|
|
member, he helped lead efforts to raise money for victims of |
|
|
Hurricane Katrina; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A source of tremendous pride to his mother and |
|
|
stepfather, Juanita and Paul Quintero, Matthew Hernandez possesses |
|
|
a stellar work ethic and a determination to succeed, and he may |
|
|
indeed look with anticipation and optimism toward a bright and |
|
|
promising future; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Matthew Hernandez on being named |
|
|
valedictorian of the Edinburg North High School Class of 2007 and |
|
|
extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success in all his |
|
|
endeavors; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Hernandez as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
