R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
  meaningful accomplishments may comfort the family and friends of
  Earnest Kuykendall of San Antonio, who passed away on March 17,
  2007; and
         WHEREAS, Earnest Kuykendall was born to Claude and Gussie B.
  Kuykendall in San Antonio; a World War II veteran who fought with
  the U.S. Army at Normandy Beach, Mr. Kuykendall suffered a spinal
  injury in combat that led him to pursue a career in rehabilitation
  therapy; after the war, he attended Huston-Tillotson University and
  graduated with a degree in physical education in 1950; and
         WHEREAS, A recognized leader in the field of rehabilitation
  and recreational therapy, Mr. Kuykendall was director of physical
  and recreational activities at a Boston veterans affairs hospital
  for 20 years; he later returned to Texas to care for his mother and
  served as a volunteer and board member at the Davis-Scott YMCA; in
  his retirement, he worked as a private physical therapist and was
  even known to help the physically impaired by purchasing medical
  equipment and supplies for them; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Kuykendall was a man of faith who was affiliated
  with Antioch Baptist Church as well as with Second Baptist Church;
  and
         WHEREAS, Earnest Kuykendall lived a caring and purposeful
  life, and he leaves behind a legacy of compassion and generosity
  that will be forever treasured by those who knew him; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Earnest Kuykendall
  and extend deepest condolences to the members of his family: to his
  sons, William and Samuel Kuykendall; to his daughter-in-law, Sandra
  Kuykendall; to his grandchildren, William Kyle and Cole Wilson
  Kuykendall; to his former wife, Alicia Wilson Kuykendall; to his
  brothers, Oliver and Willie Kuykendall; to his sister, Thelma
  Kuykendall; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Earnest
  Kuykendall.
