R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, February 7, 2007, was National Black HIV/AIDS
  Awareness and Information Day; and
         WHEREAS, This year's event marked the seventh observance of
  this nationwide effort to mobilize the African American community
  and encourage members to get educated, get tested, and get involved
  with HIV/AIDS and, when necessary, get treated for this potentially
  deadly disease that continues to devastate black communities; and
         WHEREAS, National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness and Information
  Day is a project of the Community Capacity Building Coalition,
  which is composed of national advocacy organizations and funded by
  the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention through the
  Minority AIDS Initiative to provide capacity building assistance to
  community-based organizations and stakeholders involved in
  HIV/AIDS prevention; and
         WHEREAS, More than 5,900 residents of San Antonio have been
  diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, and 13 percent of these men, women, and
  children are African Americans; in an effort to create awareness,
  Hope Action Care hosted a community event to recognize this day and
  its importance to the African American community and all concerned
  citizens; and
         WHEREAS, It is fitting to join with these groups to express
  strong support of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness and Information
  Day and the initiatives to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS in the
  African American community and to provide treatment and support
  services to the victims of the disease; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize February 7, 2007, as National Black
  HIV/AIDS Awareness and Information Day in San Antonio and that
  local residents be urged to strongly support the initiatives
  promoted by this event; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Community Capacity Building Coalition and the
  organizing committee for National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness and
  Information Day as an expression of high regard by the Texas House
  of Representatives.
