R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Mel Measeles is concluding his tenure as a
  Friendswood City Council member in 2007, bringing to a close 15
  years of distinguished service to that East Texas community; and
         WHEREAS, A resident of Friendswood for 36 years, Mr. Measeles
  joined the city council in 1991 and filled the position of mayor
  pro-tem in 1992 and 1993; after leaving office in the mid-1990s, he
  returned to the council in 1997, and his accomplished leadership
  has helped guide the city in the 10 years since; and
         WHEREAS, In his work in behalf of area residents, Mr.
  Measeles has served as a liaison to the boards that oversee a wide
  variety of issues, including parks and recreation, the library,
  planning and zoning, and community appearance; and
         WHEREAS, His input has also been vital to groups such as the
  Clear Creek Advisory Committee, the Clear Creek Regional Watershed
  Steering Committee, the Galveston County Consolidated Drainage
  District, the Houston-Galveston Area Council, and the Friendswood
  Historical Society; and
         WHEREAS, Highly respected by his peers, Mr. Measeles has
  taken an active role in organizations that promote cooperation
  between local governments; he has served as an officer of the
  Galveston County Mayors and Council Members Association, the Harris
  County Mayors' and Councils' Association, and the Clear Lake
  Council of Cities; and
         WHEREAS, This devoted public servant and involved citizen has
  demonstrated an admirable commitment to making Friendswood an even
  better place to live and work, and Mr. Measeles may take justifiable
  pride in his many achievements as an elected official; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Mel Measeles for his long and noteworthy
  tenure with the Friendswood City Council and extend to him best
  wishes for success in his future endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Measeles as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
