R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The valiant Americans who fought for this country |
|
during the crucial years of World War II are deserving of the |
|
highest respect; and |
|
WHEREAS, James Luther Ware of Marshall was among those who |
|
endured the grim dangers of war to preserve his nation's freedom and |
|
prosperity; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Fannin County in 1925, Jim Ware was a high |
|
school student when the attack on Pearl Harbor brought the United |
|
States into that momentous conflict; immediately after his 1942 |
|
graduation, he was on his way to Marine training camp, and in |
|
February 1944, he and his fellow Marines in the 24th Regiment of the |
|
4th Division fought their way ashore on the Pacific islands of |
|
Roi-Namur; and |
|
WHEREAS, That successful attack against stiff Japanese |
|
opposition was the first of four island invasions in which Private |
|
Ware took part; again at Saipan, at Tinian, and at Iwo Jima, he |
|
fought with immense bravery and great determination, aiding the |
|
advance toward Japan that eventually helped bring about the end of |
|
the war; wounded on Saipan in June 1945, Private Ware received the |
|
Purple Heart commendation; and |
|
WHEREAS, Returning to civilian life, Mr. Ware became a |
|
successful businessman and worked in office equipment sales in |
|
Texas, New York, Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida before settling in |
|
Marshall and opening Ware Machine & Supply; through the years, he |
|
has been a caring father to his daughter, Laura Ware Shurtleff, and |
|
a loving husband to his wife, Connie; Mr. Ware has also taken an |
|
active role in his community; he helped found the Marshall Metro |
|
Rotary Club and is a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, |
|
the Marine Corps League, and the 4th Marine Division Association, |
|
as well as an active member of the military affairs committee of the |
|
Marshall Chamber of Commerce; he has also devoted extensive time to |
|
helping participants in 12-step recovery programs; and |
|
WHEREAS, In March 2007, Jim Ware returned to Iwo Jima to help |
|
commemorate the 62nd anniversary of the battle for that fiercely |
|
contested island; that ceremony offered an opportunity for somber |
|
reflection on the contributions made by the members of America's |
|
armed forces in World War II, and in that spirit, the members of |
|
this chamber recognize the tremendous valor of Private James Ware |
|
and his noble actions in behalf of his country and its citizens; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend James Luther Ware for courageously |
|
serving in the United States Marines Corps during World War II and |
|
commend him for his many good works and deeds; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Ware as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
