R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Janine Burman Nicolau has rendered outstanding
  service as a legislative intern in the office of Representative
  Helen Giddings during the 80th Legislature; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Brazil and a recent graduate of the
  Brazilian law school Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie,
  Ms. Nicolau has been a participant in the Texas Legislative
  Internship Program administered by the Mickey Leland Center on
  World Hunger and Peace at Texas Southern University; and
         WHEREAS, This excellent internship program, which was
  established in December 1990, provides a unique opportunity for
  students from Texas colleges and universities to serve as interns
  in offices of members of the Texas Legislature, in state agencies,
  and in local government offices; students receive academic credit
  for participating in the program, which combines academic study and
  research with supervised practical training; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of her internship, Ms. Nicolau has
  gained firsthand knowledge of the governmental process and work
  experience in a political environment, as well as insight into the
  issues facing our communities and our state today; fluent in
  English and Portuguese, this accomplished young woman plans to
  pursue advanced studies in international taxation and is presently
  studying Spanish; and
         WHEREAS, Diligent, resourceful, and talented, Janine Nicolau
  has skillfully handled the multifaceted duties of serving in the
  office of a state representative during session, and she may indeed
  look forward with anticipation and optimism toward a future bright
  with promise; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Janine Burman Nicolau for her dedication
  and excellent work as a participant in the Texas Legislative
  Internship Program and extend to her sincere best wishes for the
  future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Nicolau as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
