R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The members of First Christian Church (Disciples of |
|
|
Christ) in Victoria observed the 60th anniversary of the church's |
|
|
founding on March 9, 2007; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Although records suggest that the history of this |
|
|
house of worship dates back to 1913, the church was officially |
|
|
chartered in March 1947; members purchased land in May of that year, |
|
|
and on June 9, 1949, congregants gathered for a service in their |
|
|
first permanent structure, a former U.S. Army surplus building; the |
|
|
church's current home was erected in 1958, with a new sanctuary |
|
|
added in 1973; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through the years, First Christian Church has |
|
|
continued to grow and prosper under the leadership of several |
|
|
outstanding pastors; today, its members benefit from the spiritual |
|
|
guidance and inspired teachings of Dr. Donald Tharp; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For six decades, First Christian Church has provided |
|
|
a spiritual haven for those who have worshiped there, and the |
|
|
commitment and faith of its members ensure that the church will |
|
|
continue to thrive in the years to come; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate First Christian Church (Disciples |
|
|
of Christ) in Victoria on the 60th anniversary of its founding and |
|
|
extend to its clergy and congregation sincere best wishes for the |
|
|
future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
