R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Rockdale native Dr. Fannie Lee Lovelady Dawson Spain
  has made invaluable contributions to the field of education during
  her years of service as a teacher and administrator; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout her accomplished career, Dr. Spain has
  held a variety of important positions, including president,
  manager, educational consultant, leadership center creator,
  researcher, publisher, corporate officer, and city council member;
  her notable resume includes tenures with the California Department
  of Education in Sacramento, where she implemented a host of new
  programs, and the School of Education at National University of
  Sacramento, where she worked as a professor; in addition, she was
  principal of Madison Junior High School in Oakland, California, and
  was the first African American to serve as a principal in the
  Lexington school district; and
         WHEREAS, This former Education Policy Fellow at George
  Washington University holds a bachelor's degree in music, a
  master's degree and Ph.D. in administration, and an Ed.D. in
  education leadership; she is the recipient of numerous honors,
  including two Dale Carnegie Awards, outstanding leader in
  elementary and secondary education accolades, and recognition from
  Personalities of the South and Who's Who of American Women; and
         WHEREAS, Although she recently "retired," Dr. Spain can be
  found today sharing her passion for learning as an instructor on the
  Navajo Reservation in Arizona; she also gives of her time and
  talents as a member of Optimist International, Phi Delta Kappa
  International, and American Educational Research Association; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Spain has set a sterling example of leadership
  and professional achievement to which all may aspire; she may
  reflect with pride on her many years of service to the youth of our
  nation, knowing that her efforts have made a positive difference in
  the lives of countless individuals; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Dr. Fannie Lee Lovelady Dawson Spain for
  her achievements as an educator and extend to her best wishes for
  the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Spain as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
