R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Keep Houston Beautiful is participating in the Keep
  America Beautiful nationwide Great American Cleanup campaign being
  held from April 14 through May 31, 2007; and
         WHEREAS, The city's leading organization devoted to
  beautification, litter reduction, and recycling education since
  1979, Keep Houston Beautiful has reduced litter by 77 percent in the
  past 10 years; moreover, it has fostered community involvement
  through such worthy programs as Adopt-a-Block and Clean
  Neighborhoods and through its partnership with neighborhood
  associations and civic clubs throughout the city; and
         WHEREAS, The 2007 Keep America Beautiful Great American
  Cleanup campaign draws participation from nearly 2.5 million people
  in 15,000 communities across the nation; during the 2006 campaign
  over 5.5 million trees and flowers were planted and over 6,000 miles
  of riverbank, lakeshore, and coastline were cleaned; and
         WHEREAS, Kicking off this year's event with Keep Houston
  Beautiful Day on April 14, Keep Houston Beautiful has coordinated
  events in neighborhoods throughout the city, including West
  Bellaire Chinatown, Sunnyside, and the Second Ward; prizes are
  being awarded for the most cigarette butts collected in the
  citywide Cigarette Butt Scavenger Hunt, and opportunities have been
  made available for local citizens to dispose of used automotive oil
  and passenger car tires at Firestone Tire and Service Centers; and
         WHEREAS, Through its participation in this admirable
  campaign, Keep Houston Beautiful and its caring volunteers are
  helping to improve the health, cleanliness, and quality of life
  enjoyed by residents of the city of Houston, as well as promoting
  volunteerism, civic responsibility, and community involvement, and
  it is fitting that all those involved be recognized for their
  generous contribution of time and energy; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Keep Houston Beautiful for its
  participation in the Great American Cleanup and extend to the
  organization and its volunteers best wishes for continued success;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Keep Houston Beautiful as an expression of high regard
  by the Texas House of Representatives.
