R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The residents of Deer Park lost a respected teacher
  and beloved basketball coach with the passing of Billy Glyn
  Carlisle on February 10, 2006, one day shy of his 52nd birthday; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Carlisle had taught and coached at Deer Park
  High School since 1981, when he joined the faculty as a special
  education aide and sophomore basketball coach; he coached the
  junior varsity team from 1982 until 1986, when he assumed the role
  of head coach of the varsity team; during his teaching career he
  taught economics, business law, record-keeping, health, and
  physical education; and
         WHEREAS, Born on February 11, 1954, to George and Peggy
  Carlisle, Mr. Carlisle devoted much of his life to the game of
  basketball; he was a standout player during his high school career
  at Clear Creek High School and Clear Lake High School, earning
  all-district recognition as a junior and senior, and he attended
  Baylor University on a basketball scholarship; and
         WHEREAS, After playing on the junior varsity squad as a
  freshman, the talented young athlete lettered on the varsity as a
  sophomore and was named team captain at the start of his junior
  year; following a two-year hiatus in Austria, during which he was a
  player-assistant coach on an Austrian professional team, he
  returned to Baylor to complete his degree in education and captain
  the Bears basketball team; and
         WHEREAS, Dedicated to academic achievement, Coach Carlisle
  earned a master's degree in education from the University of
  Houston-Clear Lake in 1985 and was named Campus Teacher of the Year
  several times during his tenure at Deer Park High School; his
  coaching career included four bi-district championships and a
  335-301 record, and he was posthumously honored as the 2006
  District 23-5A Co-Head Coach of the Year; moreover, the Deer Park
  ISD Board of Trustees voted to name the high school's playing court
  the Billy Carlisle Court in honor of the late coach; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Carlisle was blessed with
  the love and support of his wife, Shannon, and his three sons,
  Wilson, Weston, and Wyndon, with whom he shared many happy times and
  cherished family memories; and
         WHEREAS, Although he was taken from his loved ones far too
  soon, Billy Carlisle made the most of his time on this Earth, and
  his memory and achievements will not soon be forgotten by those who
  were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Billy Glyn Carlisle
  and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
  wife, Shannon Carlisle; to his sons, Wilson, Weston, and Wyndon
  Carlisle; to his parents, George and Peggy Carlisle; to his
  brother, Buddy Carlisle; to his sister, Vicki Garrison; and to his
  other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Billy Glyn
  Carlisle.
