R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jennifer Elrod has been nominated by |
|
President George W. Bush to serve on the United States Court of |
|
Appeals for the Fifth Circuit; and |
|
WHEREAS, A former resident of Baytown, where she attended |
|
Ross S. Sterling High School, Judge Elrod earned her bachelor's |
|
degree at Baylor University and went on to graduate from Harvard Law |
|
School in 1992; after serving as a law clerk to Judge Sim Lake of the |
|
U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, she |
|
practiced in the trial department of top national firm Baker Botts, |
|
L.L.P.; and |
|
WHEREAS, This accomplished jurist currently serves her |
|
fellow citizens on the 190th Civil District Court in Houston; |
|
appointed to the bench by Governor Rick Perry in 2002, she was |
|
elected later that same year, and again in 2006, when she ran |
|
unopposed; and |
|
WHEREAS, Long dedicated to giving back to her community, |
|
Judge Elrod has provided pro bono services to individuals in need |
|
and chaired the board of the Gulf Coast Legal Foundation, now Lone |
|
Star Legal Aid, which is one of the largest providers of legal aid |
|
to the poor in Texas; her notable efforts in this regard earned her |
|
the Thomas Gibbs Gee Award for Outstanding Pro Bono Work from Baker |
|
Botts; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through her dedication and service to the judicial |
|
system, Judge Elrod has helped to protect and defend our nation's |
|
foundation of law, on which all American liberties and rights so |
|
firmly rest; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable Jennifer Elrod on her |
|
nomination to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth |
|
Circuit and extend to her best wishes for success in her future |
|
endeavors; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Judge Elrod as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
