R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Bringing distinction to its school, the Science
  Olympiad Team of the Liberal Arts and Science Academy at Lyndon
  Baines Johnson High School in Austin has placed first in the Texas
  Science Olympiad held over the weekend of April 28, 2007, at Texas
  A&M University in College Station; and
         WHEREAS, The Science Olympiad program is designed to create
  in students a passion for science and to improve the quality of
  science education through a series of local, regional, state, and
  national competitions; as it fosters the values of teamwork,
  commitment to excellence, and intellectual curiosity, the Science
  Olympiad also recognizes and celebrates the achievements of
  outstanding students and teachers of science; and
         WHEREAS, Supported and encouraged by LASA Science Olympiad
  coach Alicia Ruch-Flynn, 17 talented students won or placed in 16
  categories such as chemistry lab, experimental design, entomology,
  and environmental chemistry; their overall score makes them the top
  team in the state, and members of the LASA team are now qualified to
  compete at the National Science Olympiad being held in Wichita,
  Kansas, on May 19, 2007; and
         WHEREAS, The gifted students of the LASA Science Olympiad
  Team are Jim Wang, Andrew Klotz, Henry Mareck, Andrew Pegues,
  Prashant Raghavendran, Tyler Smith, Navonil Ghosh, Wesley Chen,
  Aditi Ghatok-Roy, Albert Bayer, Panxin Jiang, Jonathan Hillis,
  Frasier Liljestrand, Alicia Zhang, Ryan Doubrava, Terry Coleman,
  and Emily Liljestrand; and
         WHEREAS, The hard work, intelligence, and competitive spirit
  of these students have been justly rewarded by their victory at the
  Texas Science Olympiad; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Science Olympiad Team of the
  Liberal Arts and Science Academy at Lyndon Baines Johnson High
  School on winning the 2007 state championship and extend best
  wishes to its members for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
