R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, U.S. Army Lieutenant Travis Atwood has been awarded
  a Bronze Star Medal with Valor Device, the nation's fourth highest
  combat award, for his exceptional heroism as a platoon leader
  during Operation Iraqi Freedom; and
         WHEREAS, Since August 2006, Lieutenant Atwood has served with
  the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 1st
  Infantry Division, which conducts operations in conjunction with
  the Iraqi Army, the Iraqi Police, and the local populace in order to
  reduce sectarian violence and promote peaceful governance in the
  Adhamiyah sector of northeast Baghdad; in September of that year,
  he successfully maintained command and control of an element the
  size of three U.S. Army platoons while under attack; he called in
  close air support fires, while coordinating with the Tactical
  Operations Center and providing battlefield situation reports and
  intelligence; and
         WHEREAS, A 2005 graduate of the United States Military
  Academy at West Point, Travis Atwood is the husband of Terran Atwood
  of Abilene and the son of Sam and Shirley Atwood of Goliad; and
         WHEREAS, Lieutenant Atwood's outstanding leadership has
  greatly contributed to the Global War on Terrorism, and his sure and
  decisive actions during combat operations reflect admirably on the
  Multinational Division--Baghdad and the United States Army; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Lieutenant Travis Atwood for his
  exemplary service as a member of the United States Army and
  congratulate him on his receipt of the Bronze Star Medal with Valor
  Device; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Lieutenant Atwood as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
