R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Congregants of the Church of God in Christ were |
|
deeply saddened by the death of their esteemed leader, Presiding |
|
Bishop G. E. Patterson of Memphis, Tennessee, who passed away in |
|
March 2007; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Humboldt, Tennessee, G. E. Patterson |
|
attended Lemoyne-Owen College in Memphis and the Detroit Bible |
|
Institute and held an honorary doctorate from Oral Roberts |
|
University; ordained as an elder in the COGIC in 1957, he served as |
|
a minister for nearly 50 years, during which time he organized |
|
Temple of Deliverance COGIC in Memphis; and |
|
WHEREAS, One of his most notable accomplishments was the |
|
founding of Bountiful Blessings Ministries, a worldwide telecast |
|
program, through which he reached millions of people with his |
|
positive message of faith; he further distinguished himself as the |
|
jurisdictional prelate of the Tennessee Fourth Ecclesiastical |
|
Jurisdiction and as a member of the COGIC general board, and on |
|
November 14, 2000, he was elected presiding bishop; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although Bishop Patterson is deeply missed, he |
|
leaves behind an inspiring legacy of compassion, hope, and faith |
|
that will be forever treasured by all those whose lives he touched; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Church of God in |
|
Christ Presiding Bishop G. E. Patterson and extend sincere sympathy |
|
to his wife, Louise Patterson, and to his many other relatives, |
|
friends, and admirers; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Presiding |
|
Bishop G. E. Patterson. |
