R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Congregants of the Church of God in Christ were
  deeply saddened by the death of their esteemed leader, Presiding
  Bishop G. E. Patterson of Memphis, Tennessee, who passed away in
  March 2007; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Humboldt, Tennessee, G. E. Patterson
  attended Lemoyne-Owen College in Memphis and the Detroit Bible
  Institute and held an honorary doctorate from Oral Roberts
  University; ordained as an elder in the COGIC in 1957, he served as
  a minister for nearly 50 years, during which time he organized
  Temple of Deliverance COGIC in Memphis; and
         WHEREAS, One of his most notable accomplishments was the
  founding of Bountiful Blessings Ministries, a worldwide telecast
  program, through which he reached millions of people with his
  positive message of faith; he further distinguished himself as the
  jurisdictional prelate of the Tennessee Fourth Ecclesiastical
  Jurisdiction and as a member of the COGIC general board, and on
  November 14, 2000, he was elected presiding bishop; and
         WHEREAS, Although Bishop Patterson is deeply missed, he
  leaves behind an inspiring legacy of compassion, hope, and faith
  that will be forever treasured by all those whose lives he touched;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Church of God in
  Christ Presiding Bishop G. E. Patterson and extend sincere sympathy
  to his wife, Louise Patterson, and to his many other relatives,
  friends, and admirers; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Presiding
  Bishop G. E. Patterson.
