R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Father Seamus Joseph McGowan is being elevated to |
|
|
Monsignor in June 2007, a month that also marks the 50th anniversary |
|
|
of his ordination, and his years of dedicated service to the Diocese |
|
|
of Corpus Christi are truly worthy of recognition; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ordained to the priesthood on June 16, 1957, Father |
|
|
McGowan celebrated his first Mass in the same church in which he was |
|
|
baptized and arrived in Corpus Christi in October of that same year; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through the decades, he served in parishes across |
|
|
South Texas, including St. Patrick's Church in Corpus Christi, |
|
|
St. Anthony Church in Robstown, St. John of the Cross Parish in |
|
|
Orange Grove, and Sacred Heart Church in Sinton; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Father McGowan has dedicated countless hours to |
|
|
ministering to the sick since his retirement in 1997, and further |
|
|
shared his time assisting St. Peter Church in Corpus Christi; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, His compassion, wisdom, and abiding concern for the |
|
|
well-being of others have earned Father McGowan the affection and |
|
|
respect of many, and it is a pleasure to take this opportunity to |
|
|
honor him; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Father Seamus Joseph McGowan on |
|
|
being elevated to Monsignor and commend him for 50 years of service |
|
|
in the priesthood; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Father McGowan as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
