R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Kay Whitton is an exemplary teacher at Jim Ned High
  School in Tuscola, and her outstanding efforts in support of the
  school's UIL academic team merit special praise; and
         WHEREAS, At the UIL state academic meet in Austin, held May
  3-5, 2007, Mrs. Whitton coached her students to the individual and
  team championships in accounting, making Jim Ned one of only two
  schools to ever win the state accounting team championship; the
  coach of the only UIL state champions in Jim Ned High School
  history, she also coaches students in spelling and vocabulary,
  social studies, and literary criticism; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Whitton's students have advanced to the state
  UIL academic meet in each of the past seven years, and from 2005 to
  2007, this talented teacher coached five regional championship
  teams and four state runners-up; notably, she has coached 14 teams
  to district championships during the past decade; and
         WHEREAS, In tribute to her excellence as a teacher and coach,
  Mrs. Whitton received the Optimist Unlimited Teacher of the Year
  Award in 2004, the Coca-Cola Educator of Distinction Award in 2005,
  the UIL Sponsor Excellence Award in 2006, and the KRBC Elite
  Educator Award in 2007; and
         WHEREAS, Kay Whitton has a passion for teaching that has
  benefited countless young Texans, and her hard work and dedication
  are most appreciated by the citizens of the Lone Star State; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Kay Whitton for her work with the UIL
  academic team at Jim Ned High School in Tuscola and extend to her
  best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Whitton as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
