R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Veteran drama teacher Joe Fullen is beginning a new
  chapter in his life with his retirement from Langham Creek High
  School in Houston in May 2007, and in recognition of his
  contributions to the fine arts department, the school's theater is
  being renamed in his honor; and
         WHEREAS, A drama instructor for 37 years, Mr. Fullen has
  taught at Langham Creek High since 1984; he has been a faculty
  cosponsor for the Ensemble theatrical club, as well as for the
  school's chapter of the International Thespian Society; and
         WHEREAS, Students under Mr. Fullen's tutelage have won awards
  at the annual Texas Thespians State Festival, the Alley Theatre's
  Young Playwright Series, and the International Thespian Society
  Playwright Festival; and
         WHEREAS, Together with his colleague Cheryl Bradford, Mr.
  Fullen received a Distinguished Medal of Honor from the Veterans of
  Foreign Wars for their production of the play A Piece of My Heart,
  which deals with the Vietnam War; moreover, under Mr. Fullen's
  direction, the LCHS drama department was selected by the American
  High School Theatre Festival to present Shakespeare's Macbeth at
  the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 2006; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Fullen is also a gifted writer, and two of his
  plays, Pies from Mars and Babe Ruth Slept Here, have won first-prize
  honors at the Texas Thespians State Festival; his play Galveston
  was nominated for review by the International Thespian Society; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Fullen has given generously to his profession as
  well, as chair of the Texas Educational Theatre Association
  TheatreFest and as a member of the executive board of Texas
  Thespians; and
         WHEREAS, A gifted and dedicated teacher as well as a talented
  artist in his own right, Joe Fullen has introduced generations of
  young Texans to the dramatic arts, and the dedication of the Joe
  Fullen Theater provides a fitting tribute to the legacy of
  creativity and achievement that he leaves behind; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Joe Fullen on his retirement from
  Langham Creek High School and extend to him sincere best wishes for
  the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Fullen as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
