H.R. No. 2266

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Vernon Cannamore is retiring from his position as program director of social studies for the Galena Park Independent School District, bringing to a close an exceptional tenure in education that has spanned 36 years; and

WHEREAS, An alumnus of Galena Park public schools, Mr. Cannamore earned his bachelor's degree from Stephen F. Austin State University; he taught history at Nacogdoches High School before returning to Galena Park in 1979 to teach social studies at North Shore Middle School; and

WHEREAS, An outstanding educator and respected administrator, Mr. Cannamore was named director of the district's social studies program; he is a former president of the Texas State Social Studies Association and a member of the state and national councils for social studies; among his impressive achievements as social studies program director is his successful implementation of a districtwide geography bee that provides fun and excitement for its participants, as well as an important learning opportunity; and

WHEREAS, Those individuals who devote their careers to education are indeed deserving of all Texans' respect and gratitude, and as Vernon Cannamore prepares to begin a new chapter in his life, he may reflect with pride on his positive and lasting contributions to area schoolchildren; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Vernon Cannamore on his retirement as program director of social studies for Galena Park Independent School District and extend to him best wishes for the future; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Cannamore as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
