R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The beautiful beaches of Galveston represent a
  renowned recreational resource for the citizens of this state and
  for visitors from around the world; and
         WHEREAS, Galvestonians and tourists alike flock to these
  beaches each year to participate in a variety of enjoyable outdoor
  activities, including swimming, fishing, bodysurfing, and
  sunbathing; and
         WHEREAS, The aquatic environment, however, presents an array
  of dangers, but these potential perils can be effectively managed
  through increased public awareness and the vigilance of
  professional lifeguards; and
         WHEREAS, To increase public safety, an annual reminder of the
  joys and hazards associated with the aquatic environment is most
  appropriate at the commencement of the busy summer beach season;
  and
         WHEREAS, Beachgoers must remember a few basic guidelines in
  order to safely enjoy themselves: learn to swim, always swim near a
  lifeguard, never swim alone, never float where you can't swim,
  always obey instructions of lifeguards, never dive headfirst,
  always take precautions for the heat and sun, always obey warning
  signs and flags, learn to understand and avoid rip currents and
  dangerous areas, and always respect the water and environment; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize May 21-28, 2007, as National Beach
  Safety Week in Galveston and urge all beachgoers to take
  appropriate measures to protect themselves and their children while
  enjoying the summer beach season.
