R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Public works services and facilities such as water,
  sewerage, roadways, public buildings, and solid waste collection
  are essential elements of life for the citizens of Texas; and
         WHEREAS, The dedicated men and women who provide and maintain
  public works are valuable assets to the communities of the Lone Star
  State; their skill and professionalism assure the fundamental
  services that are the foundation of modern life yet are too often
  taken for granted; and
         WHEREAS, National Public Works Week, which takes place each
  year during the third week in May, provides an opportunity to
  acknowledge the achievements of the officials and employees who
  plan these facilities and keep them operating effectively; and
         WHEREAS, Begun by the American Public Works Association in
  1960, National Public Works Week helps focus greater public
  attention on the vital role that the staff of public works
  operations play in making our nation a safe, comfortable, and
  efficient place to live; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize May 20 to May 26, 2007, as National
  Public Works Week and encourage all residents of the Lone Star State
  to show their support for the service of public works
  administrators and employees.
