R E S O L U T I O N
       WHEREAS, Countless lives were touched by the kindness and joy
of Zina Keith Worley of Del Rio, who passed away on May 5, 2007; and
       WHEREAS, Born in Sabine Pass, Texas, Mrs. Worley graduated
from Bay City High School at 16 and enrolled in Texas Woman's
University in Denton to study journalism; after graduation, she
became a photojournalist at the Beaumont Herald; and
       WHEREAS, In 1945, she married Ernest Lee Worley, Jr., and
through the years the couple lived in Guam, Louisiana, Morocco,
Georgia, Texas, Nebraska, and California as part of his military
service; although she was occupied raising four children, she found
the time to publish a magazine for the Officer's Wives Club and
helped organize events and lectures; in addition, she was actively
involved in the construction of the Val Verde County Library, and
she volunteered for the Democratic Party, working for John
Connally's gubernatorial campaign in Southwest Texas and for John
F. Kennedy's White House campaign; and
       WHEREAS, Mr. Worley retired in 1968, and he and Mrs. Worley
chose to return to Texas; they both worked for the Del Rio
News-Herald, and she later became managing editor; in addition to
her work and family responsibilities, she volunteered with the
local Planned Parenthood and, later, became director of Family
Planning, where she developed a mobile clinic program; and
       WHEREAS, Mrs. Worley retired from her position with Planned
Parenthood after 16 years, but she continued making contributions
to her community; she was a founding member of Del Rio's Pan
American Round Table and the Great Books Discussion Group; some of
the other organizations to which she lent her time and talents were
the Del Rio Council of Arts, Laughlin Air Force Base Community
Council, Del Rio Housing Authority, Casa de la Cultura, and the
First United Methodist Church; and
       WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Mrs. Worley
will remember a woman who championed women's health, who
exemplified generosity and integrity, and who touched the lives of
countless individuals with her warmth, intelligence, and
compassion; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Zina Keith Worley and
offer condolences to the members of her family: to her children,
Cecil Brezina and her husband, John, Lee Worley and his wife,
Carmen, Seth Worley and his wife, Paula, and Robin E. Worley; to her
grandchildren, Ernest L., Virginia L., and Benjamin E. Worley, John
Michael, Lyn, and Lara Brezina, and Grace Sullivan; to her
great-grandchildren, Carter, Sophie, Catherine, and Lucas; and to
her other relatives and friends; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Zina Keith
Worley.
