R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Valero Energy Corporation has been ranked number one |
|
|
on Fortune magazine's 2007 list of the "Best Big Companies to Work |
|
|
For"; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Based in San Antonio, Valero is the largest refiner |
|
|
in North America, with 22,000 employees and annual revenues of more |
|
|
than $90 billion; the company owns and operates 18 refineries |
|
|
throughout the U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean, with a combined |
|
|
throughput capacity of approximately 3.3 million barrels per day; |
|
|
Valero is also one of the nation's largest retail operators, with |
|
|
over 5,500 retail and branded wholesale outlets, including Valero, |
|
|
Diamond Shamrock, and others; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Fortune magazine ranking highlights Valero's |
|
|
commitment to a safe workplace; the only refining company to make |
|
|
the magazine's list of best big employers, it is also the only |
|
|
refiner to commit all of its refineries to achieve certification |
|
|
through the OSHA-sponsored Voluntary Protection Program, a list of |
|
|
standards that promote workplace safety and health; to date, 11 |
|
|
Valero refineries have achieved Star Site certification, a |
|
|
designation only 23 out of 149 refineries in the U.S. have earned; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Valero is committed not only to the safety of the |
|
|
workplace, but also holds as part of its mission the professional |
|
|
development of its employees, an environment that promotes creative |
|
|
thinking, teamwork, and open communication, and a leadership role |
|
|
in its communities by providing company support and encouraging |
|
|
employee involvement; in 2006 alone, more than 250,000 hours were |
|
|
donated by Valero staff members to community projects; moreover, |
|
|
the company has never laid off a single employee; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This outstanding corporate citizen continues to set |
|
|
a high standard of professionalism, and its administrators and |
|
|
staff may take great pride in this recent accomplishment; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Valero Energy Corporation on its |
|
|
number one ranking on the Fortune "Best Big Companies to Work For" |
|
|
list and extend to all those associated with the company best wishes |
|
|
for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Valero as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
