R E S O L U T I O N
       WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories
of Ruben Dario Cavada of Corpus Christi, who died on April 23, 2007,
at the age of 86; and
       WHEREAS, Mr. Cavada was born to Maria and Severo Cavada on
December 20, 1920, in Corpus Christi, and he grew up in the farming
community of Clarkwood; he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in July 1942
and served in the Pacific theater of World War II as a crew member
aboard the USS Rochambeau and USS Sirona; and
       WHEREAS, Following his return to Corpus Christi after the
war, Mr. Cavada went to work for the ASARCO refinery; he retired
from ASARCO after 37-1/2 years of service, having never missed a day
on the job; and
       WHEREAS, A loving husband and devoted father, Mr. Cavada was
married to the former Ernestina Esquivel on December 27, 1941; the
couple became the proud parents of three children and rejoiced as
their family grew to include nine grandchildren and 11
great-grandchildren; and
       WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have shared in the love
and friendship  of Ruben Cavada may take well-deserved pride in his
long lifetime of purposeful endeavor and will forever hold him
close to their hearts; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Ruben Dario Cavada and
extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife of
65 years, Ernestina Cavada; to his sons and daughters-in-law,
Armando and Elva Cavada and Abel and Viviana Cavada; to his
daughter, Alicia Cavada; to his grandchildren, Marco, Marta, Rudy,
Antonio, Christina, Marivel, Adelita, Camilo, and Alamar; to his 11
great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and friends; and,
be it further
       RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ruben
Cavada.
