R E S O L U T I O N
       WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the heartache felt
at the death of U.S. Army Specialist Eddie Tamez of Galveston, who
lost his life while bravely serving his country in Iraq on April 27,
2007, at the age of 21; and
       WHEREAS, Assigned to the 5th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment,
1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Specialist Tamez
was mortally wounded when struck by a roadside bomb in Fallujah; and
       WHEREAS, Born on February 18, 1986, Eddie Tamez joined the
army soon after his 2004 graduation from Ball High School, where he
was an honor graduate of the ROTC program and a member of the
Hispanic Dance group; trained as a chemical operations specialist,
he was deployed to Iraq in early 2007, and his meritorious service
earned him a number of military decorations, including the Iraq
Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Expert
Marksmanship Badge, and the Deutsch Marksmanship Badge; he has
posthumously been awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the
Army Good Conduct Medal, and the Combat Action Badge; and
       WHEREAS, Specialist Tamez loved to travel, and his first duty
assignment to Germany enabled him and his wife, Keyris, to explore
that country as well as Switzerland, Austria, and Italy; he also
enjoyed dancing and playing pool, poker, and the drums; and
       WHEREAS, Specialist Tamez embodied the highest standards of
the United States armed forces, and his valiant efforts and immense
sacrifice are deserving of the respect and appreciation of every
American; although his loss has left a tremendous void in the lives
of all who knew him, they will forever treasure the memory of his
heroic and patriotic service; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Specialist
Eddie Tamez and extend sincere sympathy to his wife, Keyris Sanchez
Tamez; to his father, Henry Arreola; to his mother, Magdalena Dunn;
to his sisters, Magdalena Romero and her husband, Alberto, and
Manuela Zarate and her husband, Leo; to his brothers, Francisco
Dunn and his wife, Deyse, and Alejandro Dunn and his wife,
Christina; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it
further
       RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Eddie
Tamez.
