R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The boys' track and field team of Copperas Cove High
  School reached the pinnacle of success by winning the University
  Interscholastic League Class 4A state championship on May 11, 2007,
  at the state meet in Austin; and
         WHEREAS, In becoming the first boys' sports team from
  Copperas Cove to claim a high school title, the Bulldawgs relied on
  outstanding performances across a number of events; the team's
  initial points came from Troy Vital's third-place finish in the
  triple jump, and Rashad Hawk followed with another bronze-medal
  win, taking third in the 100-meter dash; and
         WHEREAS, An outstanding display of athletic excellence by
  Robert Griffin was key to the title; Mr. Griffin won both the
  110-meter high hurdles and 300-meter intermediate hurdles, setting
  new state records in both events and coming within one-hundredth of
  a second of equaling the national record in the 300; this
  outstanding runner also joined with Troy Vital, Billy Abreu, and
  Cleveland McKinney to take second place in the 1,600-meter relay;
  and
         WHEREAS, The Dawgs earned more gold in the 800-meter relay,
  as Anthony Cotton, Jerrard Millsap, Rashad Hawk, and Brian Jones
  combined to take the state title in that event and set a new school
  record time of 1:26.01; and
         WHEREAS, These exceptional competitors were guided by head
  coach Tracy Ranes and an able staff of assistants that includes
  Frank Wilson, Tim Hensley, Joe Welch, Greg Porter, Jeremy Shannon,
  Tim Theis, Ryan Youngblood, Vance McAnally, Darren Worrell, Shay
  Adams, and Josh White; and
         WHEREAS, Winning a state championship is the dream of every
  high school athlete, and in taking home the 4A title, the members of
  the Bulldawgs track and field team earned the esteem of their many
  supporters in Copperas Cove and created a proud memory that will
  remain with them throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the boys' track and field team of
  Copperas Cove High School on winning the UIL Class 4A state
  championship and extend best wishes to the athletes and staff for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
