R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Franne R. Michaels of Houston, a dedicated teacher,
  wife, and mother, passed away on April 11, 2007, and memories of her
  warmth, strength, and courage remain to comfort her many loved
  ones; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Philadelphia, Franne Michaels graduated cum
  laude from the University of Utah in 1977 with a bachelor's degree
  in elementary education; she went on to build a distinguished
  30-year career as a teacher, including nearly two decades with the
  Houston Independent School District; and
         WHEREAS, Admired and respected by students and colleagues
  alike, Ms. Michaels was known for going above and beyond the call of
  duty; she strived to teach critical thinking and life skills in
  addition to facts and figures, and she designed and implemented
  professional development and instructional technology for her
  fellow educators; in 2001, she earned her master's degree in
  education from Houston Baptist University; and
         WHEREAS, She married Rabbi Mathew Michaels on July 9, 1978,
  and the couple were blessed with four children, Mara, Martin,
  Melinda, and Benjamin; devoted to her family, Ms. Michaels also
  loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending summers at Greene Family
  Camp; and
         WHEREAS, Franne Michaels inspired countless people with her
  commitment to education and with the graceful spirit in which she
  faced the challenges she met; although her time here was far too
  brief, the legacy of her life and work will long endure in the
  hearts of all those whose lives she touched; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Franne R. Michaels and
  extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her husband
  of 28 years, Rabbi Mathew Michaels; to her children, Mara Braunfeld
  and her husband, Daniel, and Martin, Melinda, and Benjamin
  Michaels; and to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Franne
  Michaels.
