R E S O L U T I O N
       WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times, loving
moments, and meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the
family and friends of Farrah Vickers of Sinton, who passed away on
July 11, 2006, at the age of 83; and
       WHEREAS, Born to Farrah Earl Vickers and Josephine Unangst
Vickers in Sinton on August 31, 1922, "Vick" Vickers was raised in
the farming community of Sodville, south of Sinton; he attended and
graduated from Sodville schools before enrolling at Texas Lutheran
College in Seguin; he later attended Texas A&I University in
Kingsville; and
       WHEREAS, At the age of 19, Mr. Vickers was working as a
civilian flight instructor for Brayton Flying Service; he joined
the Army Air Corps shortly before the U.S. entered World War II, and
during that conflict he piloted transport and cargo planes in North
Africa and India; and
       WHEREAS, After the war, Mr. Vickers farmed, served as a pilot
for the Welder Ranch, and flew crop dusters; he later worked for the
Texas Department of Agriculture, attaining the rank of senior
inspector before his retirement in the 1990s; and
       WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan was the husband of Julia K.
"Judy" Vickers, who preceded him in death, and the father of three
sons; and
       WHEREAS, Vick Vickers exemplified the best values of a
generation that preserved the flame of democracy at tremendous
personal cost and built a stronger, more prosperous society on the
foundation laid by their forebears, and it is a privilege to honor
his memory; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Farrah "Vick" Vickers
and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
sons, Gary Vickers and his wife, Kathy, Jeff Vickers and his wife,
Robin, and David Vickers and his wife, Laura; to his grandchildren,
Matthew and his wife, Krystal, Jennifer, Kevin, Emma, and Julia; to
his great-granddaughters, Hope and Faith; and to his other
relatives and friends; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Vick
Vickers.
