R E S O L U T I O N
       WHEREAS, The citizens of San Marcos lost a beloved educator
and friend with the passing of Paula Kay Wolking, at the age of 56;
and
       WHEREAS, Born on June 24, 1950, Mrs. Wolking was a graduate of
Arlington High School, where she was editor of her yearbook, an
honor student, and a member of the state championship-winning
volleyball team; she attended Sul Ross State University and again
distinguished herself as a talented athlete, helping the school's
volleyball team win the Intercollegiate Volleyball National
Championship; and
       WHEREAS, Dedicated to the development of our state's future
leaders, this devoted wife and mother served as an educator for more
than 30 years, giving generously of her time and talents to the
students of South San Antonio High School and San Marcos High School
as a teacher and coach; she was known for her innovative
instruction, including her "We The People" courses that encouraged
participants to become involved in government and civic
organizations; in addition, she played an instrumental role in the
establishment of the Lincoln Legacy Exhibit at the Lincoln
Memorial; and
       WHEREAS, Mrs. Wolking was an inspiration to all who knew her,
and  she touched the lives of her friends, family, and many students
with her warmth, kindness, and generosity of spirit; she will be
deeply missed and will always be remembered with the utmost
admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Paula Kay Wolking and
extend sympathy to the members of her family: to her husband, Dennis
Theodore Wolking; to her daughter, Anne Elizabeth Witherspoon and
her husband, Kelly; to her parents, Emmett Eugene and Joe Ann Kelly;
to her siblings, Carolyn Ellis and her husband, Jon, Kathleen
Mihalik and her husband, Sam, Jean Darling and her husband, David,
and Joseph Eugene Kelly and his wife, Shannon; and to her other
relatives and many friends; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Paula Kay
Wolking.
