H.R. No. 2488

R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The dedicated soldiers of the 3rd Armored Cavalry
Regiment received the Valorous Unit Award on May 5, 2007, for their
heroic actions in Iraq during 2003; and
WHEREAS, Deployed to Anbar Province in Iraq in April 2003,
the 3rd Armored Cavalry was tasked with securing the extensive
region, home to Fallujah, Ramadi, and Qaim and one of the country's
most notoriously volatile areas; bordered by Saudi Arabia, Jordan,
and Syria, the province was especially vulnerable to insurgent
activity, and soldiers often completed missions involving fierce
  battles; and
WHEREAS, The unit's myriad combat achievements include
destroying insurgent training grounds and safe houses,
confiscating thousands of weapons and artillery rounds, and
capturing former members of the Saddam Hussein regime; moreover,
they set up the first highway patrols on the 500-kilometer
Jordanian highway, significantly reducing violence and creating a
safe corridor through which humanitarian assistance could move in
  and out; and
WHEREAS, Responsible for a range of civil operations as well,
the 3rd Armored Cavalry was instrumental in securing and repairing
the Haditha Dam, and it helped organize Anbar's first-ever
provincial council; in addition, team members opened Iraqi police
stations, courthouses, and prisons, built schools, secured mass
grave sites, distributed daily rations, and provided economic
  assistance to civil servants; and
WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt of gratitude to the
3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment and to all of the country's military
personnel, for they are called on to bear great, often
unimaginable, burdens, and they render service and sacrifice that
  is truly beyond measure; and
WHEREAS, Through their unfaltering devotion to duty, honor,
and this nation, these brave servicemen and servicewomen have
embodied the highest ideals of the U.S. armed forces, and it is
indeed fitting to honor their outstanding service in behalf of this
  nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
Legislature hereby honor the members of the 3rd Armored Cavalry
Regiment on their receipt of a Valorous Unit Award and commend them
for their heroic and steadfast service in Iraq; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the regiment as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
