R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Texas is justly renowned for its distinctive foods
  and its rich tradition of culinary excellence, and Austin
  restaurateur Adam Gonzales is significantly contributing to our
  state's reputation for outstanding Tex-Mex; and
         WHEREAS, Born near the Mexican border in San Juan, Mr.
  Gonzales grew up in Manchaca just south of Austin; he learned his
  love for cooking from his mother, Emcie, with whom he worked in her
  tamale business; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Gonzales attended public schools in Austin and
  the University of Houston before embarking on his extensive
  travels, exploring the cuisines of the Caribbean, Brazil, Italy,
  and France; and
         WHEREAS, In 1987, along with his brother David Quintanilla,
  he founded the restaurant chain Serranos Cafe & Cantina; as vice
  president of operations and executive chef, Mr. Gonzales has been
  instrumental in the growth of this popular Austin eatery, and in
  1998, he and his brother acquired the well-known Houston-based
  chain, Ninfa's; and
         WHEREAS, With Serranos and now Ninfa's, Adam Gonzales
  combines his talents as a cook with his skills as an entrepreneur,
  and he has cultivated an enthusiastic following in Austin and
  beyond; a great friend to the members of the Mexican American
  Legislative Caucus of the Texas House of Representatives, Mr.
  Gonzales annually hosts MALC's Golf Tournament reception at
  Serranos at Symphony Square; in recognition of his friendship and
  support, MALC honored Mr. Gonzales with its Amigo Award during the
  October 2006 reception; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan brings enthusiasm and
  dedication to all that he undertakes, and it is a pleasure to
  recognize him for his contributions to the betterment of his
  community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Adam Gonzales for his professional
  achievements and extend to him best wishes for continued success;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Gonzales as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
