H.R. No. 2523

R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Freshman members of the Texas House of
Representatives have garnered unparalleled experience during their
first legislative session, and they would like to express their
appreciation to their senior colleagues for showing them the ropes
while helping them to avoid getting tangled in them; and
WHEREAS, Each and every legislative day, these earnest
officeholders have been taken under the wing by their knowledgeable
peers, who have led by example and imparted to them a number of
helpful tips that have aided them in their quest to serve their
fellow Texans to the best of their abilities; many freshman members
now keep candy at their desks to ensure friendly visits from
passersby, and they have also learned that 30 seconds is an awfully
long time on the floor of the house, chubbing is an art form, and
when it's their time in the spotlight, to just mumble, move passage,
  and sit down; and
WHEREAS, For the benefit of those who will follow in their
footsteps, members of the freshman class have compiled the
following handy list of familiar phrases for use in all the old
familiar places: "It's just a simple bill. It's a technical
cleanup. It's for the children. This is the bill we heard
yesterday. It's about good government.," and perhaps most
importantly, "We are not advised."; and
WHEREAS, Also worth noting for the next generation of newbies
is the importance of paying attention to that seemingly innocuous
form of legislation known as the amendment; the inspiration for
Extreme Makeover: Legislative Edition, the amendment ensures
legislation as unpredictable as the Texas weather, which is also,
at times, almost as hot; and
WHEREAS, The grateful recipients of a level of hazing that at
times bordered on almost manageable, the now slightly more seasoned
freshman members would like to thank their colleagues for providing
them with an education like no other by some of the finest teachers
this chamber has ever known; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
Legislature hereby express the heartfelt appreciation of the
freshman members of the Texas House to "Mr.SpeakerMembers" for all
they have done to ensure that this first session is truly an
  unforgettable one.
