R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The passing of New Waverly resident Thomas Michael
  Buzbee on March 16, 2007, has deeply saddened his family and
  friends, yet the memory of his full and rewarding life remains to
  comfort them in their time of loss; and
         WHEREAS, Born on October 1, 1938, Mike Buzbee devoted his
  life to helping disadvantaged and troubled youth and spent decades
  advocating in their behalf; the founder, president, and CEO of the
  Gulf Coast Trade Center, he worked with more than 30,000 young
  Texans over the course of his 35-year career in the juvenile
  corrections industry, and he was instrumental in establishing the
  center as a nationally recognized educational trades program; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Buzbee was a graduate of the University of
  Houston and of Sam Houston State University, where he earned a
  master's degree in criminology; he further benefited his
  professional community as the superintendent of the Raven Charter
  School and as a staff representative for the Marine Engineers
  Beneficial Association, the PCD, the AFL-CIO, and the Office
  Employees International Union; and
         WHEREAS, In addition, this notable Texan gave generously of
  his time and talents as a board member of Texas Education Agency
  Region 6, the Walker County Chamber of Commerce, the Texas
  Youth-Build Coalition, New Leader's Academy, and the National Youth
  Employment Coalition; his efforts earned him several awards,
  including the first Bridge Builders Annual Award and the New
  American Community Award; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Buzbee enjoyed the love
  and support of his wife, Kathryn, with whom he shared 45 years of
  marriage, and their four children; and
         WHEREAS, Mike Buzbee built a life that was remarkably rich in
  family, friends, and service to others, and he will always be
  remembered with great admiration and affection; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Thomas Michael Buzbee
  and extend sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
  Kathryn Benesh Buzbee; to his children, Thomas M. Buzbee, Jr., and
  his wife, Cheryl, Stephanie Marie Shelly and her husband, Kenneth,
  Scott Anthony Buzbee and his wife, Kalea, and Mary Megan
  Buzbee-D'Souza and her husband, Daniel; to his grandchildren, Tony,
  Kristen, Kyle, Allison, Meridith, Nolan, Colin, and Samuel; to his
  brother, Patrick Hugh Buzbee, and his wife, Marilyn; and to his
  other relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mike
  Buzbee.
